Free HD space changing frequently
Cause I didn't want to waste space on my HD only for testing purposes, I decided to install Win7 on a relatively small partition, something around 20-25 GB. Now I'm noticing at some occasional look on "computer" that at times there is a red bar showing only 2 GB free space left, the next time I look at it it's a blue bar with 5 GB left, and so on. (Of course I changed nothing in the meantime, no newly installed programs, no growing temporary files from ie sessions, or anything else. Only such things like opening/closing applications.) Is this normal? Not that it's hindering me by any means, but if someone asks me the same question...Mob. AMD64 3000+, 1 G RAM, Mob. ATIRadeon9700, 20x DVDRW, C:XPSP3 (55G),D:WIN7 (25G),E:DATA (250G)

Here are a few ways to free up disk space: 1. Reduce the amount of space used by system restore. Go Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > System > System Protection (in the left pane) > System Protection Tab > Configure and change the disk space allocation.2. Remove temporary files. Click the Windows Orb (Start) > Run (if the Run command is not there, go to All Programs > Accessories and then click Run), type %temp% and press Enter. All the files that show can be safely deleted, there may be a few obstinate ones that refuse to be deleted.3. Delete any temporary files that may be left over from CD and DVD burning. Navigate to the hidden folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Burn\Temporary Burn Folder and delete all the files.4. Run Disk Cleanup. Access Disk Cleanup by going to Windows Orb (Start) > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. 5. If you don't use Hibernation you can save the equivalent in hard drive space as the amount of RAM that is installed by turning it off. In a Run window, type powercfg.exe -h off (note the two spaces) and press Enter. To turn it back on type powercfg.exe -h on and press Enter.6. Reduce the space used by the Recycle Bin. Right-click the Bin > Properties > Custom Size and amend as necessary. Also, if you have a separate hard drive, more space can be released by moving the pagefile to it. 7. WinDirStat shows where disk space is being used, including a nice graphical display. Just let the mouse pointer hover over the coloured areas to identify different file types. It wont remove anything but it will identify the large chunks of used space. Download it here http://windirstat.info/
