Formatting USB drive as NTFS and completely blank.
I need to format a USB drive as a COMPLETELY blank volume. Windows 7 always seems to create the 'System Volume Information' folder, and unfortunately for what I'm trying to do, I can't have ANYTHING on the drive. Everything I've tried so far has failed, and it appears that even taking ownership of the folder and trying to delete it fails, as Win7/Vista/XP will simply recreate the folder.

I don't think there is anyway to eliminate the 'System Volume Inforamtion' folder on any drive formatted in NTFS. This feature was builtin to the specification by Microsoft and Microsoft is the only one that can change this requirement. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Why do you need the drive to be totally empty?
