Forever updating
Today I downloaded the usual Windows 7 system updates from Microsoft. When I turned the machine back on, I got the expected "Installing updates 1 of 6" message. It has now been on that message for the last 6 hours. After 3 hours, I gave up and tried turning off the computer. Nothing helped, when I turned it back on the message returned. It simply sits there, updating forever. This is a brand new machine, and now I can't use it because of a Microsoft bug in their update process. How can I get rid of this?

You could infact turn off update by doing the following>right click my computer>windows update>change setting, using the down arrow choose never check for updates follow by ok or alternatively choose other option like install updates automatically
Free Windows Admin Tool Kit Click here and download it now

I suggest your rename the SoftwareDistribution folder. Please refer the following article. Error code when you try to use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates: "0X80248007" If the issue persists, temporary disable the antivirus from startup and check the result again.Arthur Xie - MSFT
