Forefront Protection vs Kaspersky Endpoint 10

Hello,

I currently have Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10 installed on 1,500 clients spread over 200 sites (with various bandwidth speeds from 100 MB 1 MB lines). Our license is about to finish and I am looking at deploying Forefront Endpoint Protection to all the clients as we use SCCM 2012 R2 currently. OS is Windows 7 SP1.

The main reasoning are:

Cost

Ease of Deployment

Single Server Management

KES 10 SP1 is 250 MB and requires both agent/end point to be upgraded

So I need to put forward a case regarding using FEP on our network. Apart from what I have stated, is there a comparison regarding the 2 products? I think KES is more technical product than FEP, also tedious to support and manage (from what Ive noticed using it for a few years). I dont use Encryption, MDM, so its only an av for desktop/laptops.

Also, I have configured the server and installed the client successfully on a couple of test machines. Issue is that SCCM did not uninstall KES. How will I go about uninstall KES agent/av and installing FEP at the same time. Anyone have any experiences/solutions.

Thanks for your time. Any information I have missed let me know.

Cheers

There is a policy in SCEP or FEP which when you deploy it, it will uninstall other Anti-Malware products.

However, Kaspersky is not in the list.

In case of Kaspersky, you may try deploy Kaspersky removal utility:

http://support.kaspersky.com/common/service.aspx?el=1464#block2

You could write script to uninstall it using the utility and deploy the script but it is better to test it in few PCs before performing the deployment.

Thanks Cyber!

Is there any comparison between the 2 products?

I am not aware of any reliable source to compare these products but SCEP would provides you with features you need along with Group Policy. Kaspersky and SCEP would provide you sufficient level of security but they way they are doing might be different.

AV Comparatives i think is one site that does testing. Bottom line is you will likely get better coverage with Kaspersky than fep. I submit a lot of malware to Virustotal, and Kaspersky is very often detecting stuff before fep, mcafee and symantec. but detection of course is only 1 factor in the whole deal, management is another, deployment etc...  Hopefully you have another layer of defense to help keep malware out...

Hello,

First of all i need to tell you that i am a huge fan of kaspersky. I am not aware of the price for FEP but Kaspersky is easy to be deployed and with Single Server management (KSC) and lots more. Kaspersky is in the top 5 ranks within all other AV software.

For uninstalling large scale KAV client at same time you need to separate the work load on Kaspersky Security Center.

Uninstalling KES

1- Open KSC management Console

2- Create a specific task for uninstalling KES 10 SP1

3- Deploy it on 300 Computer Each day

Installing FEB through Kespersky Network Agent.

1- Create a specific task but this time choose advanced then Install application Remotely

2- Click on NEW Package Wizard and Select Create Installation Package for Specified Executable File " choose FEB or any other "

3- Deploy for users.

Same thing can be done for Uninstalling Network Agent.

Regards
