Forefront End Protection Stand Alone

Hello.  After doing a hell of a lot of reading, I have come to this conclusion.  We are running Windows SBS2011 and have no plans to purchase System Center Configuration Manager.  But Forefront End Point can still be installed on the server and clients and protect them.  They will all have to be managed seperately though since we are not using System Center.  Do I have this right?

Thanks.

Hi,

You are correct, the clients and servers will have to be installed as stand-alone clients without any SCCM server to report to. You can configure the FEP policies using Group Policies so you don't have to do that manually. There is now solution for sending alerts though...

Hi Scott,

Thank you for your post.

Not exactly. You could install FEP client on SBS clients, but not on SBS server.
It's by design that SBS server is not listed in support OS for both FEP server and FEP client.
That means if you want to install FEP client on SBS network, you need to install another AV software on SBS server.
Here is the similar thread and thank you for your understanding.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for the reply.  I was unaware of the fact that Forefront would not install on my SBS.  I thought the only thing holding me back was not having System Center installed.

What about Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server?  Can it be installed on my SBS?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott,

Yes, you could install FPE 2010 on your SBS2011 server.
