Force default domain and remove Local Machine login option?
Try to find a work around for Win 7 logon where you have to specify domain. I found the gredit location to force default domain, but in logging in as other user it still sometimes defaults to "Local Machine name" (localmachine\username). Im trying to find a way so all my netwrok users have to do is enter password and never have to worry about domain and local computer and "\". Possible? At least in XP login screen the Login to: box stayed set as default.

If you set the default domain, it will only applied when a user logs on locally. If the user logs on via network, it is impossible to apply the default domain from the host computer to the guest computer.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Thanks for the reply Arthur. I really miss the simplicity of the XP login screen where it maintained the last "Log on to" choice and made the end user never have to understand the difference between Domain\username and localmachine\username - let alone have to type that info. For such a nice hallmark product like Win7 you think they would have kept it simple isntead of making it less intutive with more steps. Fine for a savvy user, but in a department business setting with non-savvy users this is not an improvement.

Hi, From your description I understand that the user validation session in Windows XP may be more preferred by users. We will forward this feedback to proper department. Thanks for your feedback.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Arthur Xie - MSFT Yes! Or at least make it an option. Im going to have to explain Domain vs Local Computer / username naming conventions and use a million times to our less savvy users - I can just tell ;^)
