My friend has an old Latitude Dell that she bought refurbished. She's having validation problems with her XP Pro, and I'm sure she could get help on the Internet, but can't get on! How do I connect her to my home network (Linksys--WildBlue broadband) in a manner that will be safe for our connection and network?1 person needs an answerI do too

For example: - what sort of validation problems?- what happens when she attempts to connect to the Internet?- how does she attempt to connect to the Internet (dial-up, cable modem, router, DSL modem, etc.)? From whom was the "refurbished" Latitude purchased? Did it come with anOS installed? Which one? You can always try just connecting the Latitude to your router with an Ethernet cable. If it was purchased from a reputable source and never connected to the Internet, it's not likely to have malware that will infect other computers on your network, particularly if those other computers have an active firewall and antivirus application. -- Lem
