Force Application to go to Second Screen
Hello, We have a badly written application that does not have the same normal functionality of of Win7 Application window. You cannot minimize, maximize,m resize, move and so on. Yes BADLY Written. Anyway I have a user that would like this application to automatically launch on his 2nd LCD screen. Is this possible to add some sort of string or something to the start line for the .exe properties? Win7 64 bit Enterprise Thanks, Rich

It is not easy to troubleshoot your "badly" written application. However when this application does not affect video driver behaviour, then chances are that the video driver/software allows for splitting/cloning image. As to the application, the better place for digging deeper into application properties and design, there are specialized MSDN forums http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/visualstudio Regards Milos

If you knew how hard it is to write software you would not be so hostile. Without the source code its impossible to change the program behavior Windows MVP 2010-11, XP, Vista, 7. I am not wanting to troubleshoot the application. It was created by a separate vendor. I am just hoping there is just some modification I can make to the shortcut that would launch on screen 2.

Agree with Vegan Fanatic. Its not possible to change application behavior without source code access. By the way, which application are you referring here ? Without knowing the details its hard to predict things ! You might as well want to approach vendor directly or ask this question in their forum (if applicable). If it looks good, Eat it ! Likewise, If you don't know the answers, don't hesitate to ask questions !! This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. About Me !!!

Hi, Since you cannot move this application, it is unable to launch on screen 2. I suggest you need to contact your vendor to debug their application to make it possible to move in Windows 7. Hope it helps.Vincent Wang TechNet Community Support

I do have a question though. When you open say Office or Groupwise or really almost any application I use on Win7 if I move it to the 2nd screen and close it. The next time the application opens on the 2nd screen. I did not change any source code for the application? More like a registry setting I would think, right? So to me I would think this would have to be possible without changing any source code...but maybe I am just looking at this from the wrong angle. Thanks for your answers. I have asked the vendor and they seem like it is not a big deal as this has been happening since the initial release of the application. "Hostile" when you pay some one a ton of money to make a application you would think it would be in the same design as most Window's Application Windows. :) The application is called Sourcelink and made by Fiserv. It a company specific written application. If it was a well know vendor I would have went to their website. :)

if you are using a spanned desktop, windows may put some windows on the second screen Windows MVP 2010-11, XP, Vista, 7. Application will remember that setting only if it is wrritten to the registry or some other configuration file. If your application doesn't check for that then it won't matter if you have that recorded or not. I can give you example of IE. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main Window_Placement This is how the IE will remember where to open nex time. So your application has to have the key like that somewhere in the registry in order to be able to remembar where to open next time.

That makes sense...thank you! I verified with the vendor that they will plan on making it a normal window's application window in the next update. Thanks for all your help.
