For god's sake let ME have control over MY computer microsoft!!
I have just about got to the point where I may be looking for an alternative to Microsoft! I cant for the life of me understand why my computer keeps telling me that I need to have Administrator privaliges to do 'this... or 'that' My latest issue which I will get to is to do with digital driver signing, but in trying to deal with it I have come across other issues, these are: I have had to buy a new soundcard, because the one I have on my motherboard is not 'Digitally signed' and I WILL NOT keep pressing F8 on boot up to turn it off every single time I boot the damn machine! I bought a creative labs Audigy card. One of the most common cards on the market. Installation through windows 7 failed, no suprise there, I don't know why Microsoft even attempt this sort of coding, its never worked, not since windows 95!! Give it up! So I installed the driver on the disc that came with the sound card... OH GREAT! NOT DIGITALLY SIGNED! So I run the update program that comes on the disc... ANother problem arises. It complains that the security level of my Active X wont allow the updater to run... Ok, so into internet explorer, into Internet options... Oh wait ANOTHER SECURITY ISSUE!!! This Operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer????? Seriously Microsoft!! I have turned off UAC.. COMPLETELY OFF! I have set every single Active X control to ENABLE, I have set the lowest possible security settings possible in windows 7... YET STILL, I cant get Active X to run, and STILL I get the 'Operation has been cancelled' message from above! What do I have to do to get controll of my own computer?? PLEASE TELL ME HOW! I am so incredibly angry, as I'm sure you can tell from all the CAPS! I am at the end of the road! I pay a lot of money for my operating systems, and I do believe it or not appreciate a lot of the things Microsoft does, but... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! Tell me how I can take control of my computer!! I want to run Active X controls! I want security LOW... Its MY COMPUTER, NOT YOURS! So please... Digital signing... How do i turn the damn thing OFF! and secondly how do I get administrator privaliges? To EVERY SINGLE FILE AND SETTING on 'MY' computer! Thank you.

How to Turn OFF Digital signing http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/how-to-i-turn-off-digital-signature/a7047647-bf29-468f-a885-8e23d60f3daa how do I get administrator privaliges? To EVERY SINGLE FILE AND SETTING on 'MY' computer! Open Windows explorer --> Click on C Drive and go to properties --> Go to security tab --> Select your account (should be administrators group) --> make sure you have full control. If you do not have click edit and go to advance tab which will allow to give you full control on C drive, sub folders and files on the system. I hope this helps. Manoj Sehgal

Hi Manoj, Thanks for your reply. It didn't work however :( Heres a screenshot to show I'm doing it right: And yes, I have rebooted, and yes I have tried the command line approach that is in the next persons post. These did not work either. Any further help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, Thanks for the post. Regarding how do I get administrator privaliges? To EVERY SINGLE FILE AND SETTING on 'MY' computer! As manoj says, please open the files or folders properties to set the security option. Then check the Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object option to replace the ownership of chlid objects. Regarding the driver signed, you may refer to the following link. http://www.vistax64.com/drivers/166307-driver-signings.html If you have the further question, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thanks for using Windows 7 anyway. Important Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Interesting development with this whole situation... I have been having other driver problems (namely my nvida 3d stuff) and a few other 'assorted problems'. I did a full virus/spyware scan (AVG and SuperantiSpyware) and found nothing. Then I tried to run one of my most used programs and it complained of .NET not being installed properly, or bad image or some such nonsense. So I spent the next 3 hours trying to install .NET framework to no avail... I had error messages (failed to install because msisi.dll is not supposed to run on windows) to Fatal error, and all sorts! I tried Framework 4, 3.5 and 3... To no avail there was always SOME issue and couldn't install. At 12am this morning I said to hell with it, and saved my favourites, documents, etc... FORMAT RE-INSTALL! The sound card installed on it's own, and is digitally signed (I can for the life of me figure out why it couldn't do that before!) so I now have no issue! And my programs don't complain about .NET framework. (I even installed the exact file I couldn't install last night because of the MSISI.dll error!) So, here we are... Same old same old... If its microsoft, and it starts to go wrong... FORMAT RE-INSTALL! Will always fix your issues! Kutter.

Hi, Thanks for the update. There are several elements can lead to the issues. Maybe there were some viruses which infect the computer once. If you encounter the similiar situation next time, let us help you analyse it rather than directly format and reinstall. We can resolve them one by one. If you have further question, please feel free to get in touch. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I went from Win2k pro to Vista. I was scouring the internet for options of file control (ways to NOT block certain directories, etc.). I also did what was suggested here = Change control of the C drive, and populate to all child directories. I turned UAC off. The computer slowly became more unstable, unable to do anything. I had to start over (and with my teaks, this was not an easy feat). Reformat and reinstall. Some things, certain directories, require only Sys admin privileges to run. That's why you have to pay more for MS products which includes changing policies. I didn't have a Virus, but there was no way to fix the system without reformatting, and this was reported throughout the internet. So, just an FYI, there is no easy way to get around the higher priced package by simply resetting permissions (my Win 7 upgrade disc is on the way). YMMV
