Folders keep getting set to Read Only and stuff keeps asking for Admin priveleges...
First thing I've gotta say, I've seen similar questions to this, but they all sounded like they were written and answered by ESL people. I have nothing against other languages, I'd just like some good grammar and wording so I can understand how to fix my computer. Basically all my folders keep getting set to Read only for no reason I can think of. Sometimes the files and folders that are marked read only aren't actually read only (they just say that in "Properties"). I keep unchecking the box and it keeps coming back, and this happens on all of my hard drives (220GB, 230GB, 1TB, and a 1TB external). The admin thing happens randomly in random programs at random times, for instance Avast and Spybot, even a couple times in games like Mass Effect when I'm trying to save a game. I also can't really figure out how to "turn off" UAC, if that is the problem (fpr both questions, like other answers have stated). The only thing I see close to turning it off is "never notify". Maybe that is turning it off, but the wording sure sounds like it's still on. I have turned it to "never notify", but the problems keep happening. Anywho, this goes out to any official microsoft tech people on these forums, I'm all for intergrating more security into windows so they aren't as susceptible to viruses, but you've gotta know the limits. UAC is a sinking ship... Patch up the holes and put the captain back on the bridge, or it's going down (ie popups everytime you do anything to anything else are never helpful, and the ADMIN ACCOUNTS should always have ADMIN ACCESS, or we'll all just keep using XP and you'll have to release SP4 and won't make any more money off of selling OS's). Thanks for any help, and seriously UAC hasn't helped anyone in any instance that I've heard of (so far).
