Folder size
When I click on My Computer then C:/ in WinExplorer, I see a Size column which shows size of files, but not size of folders. The only files shown are hiberfil and pagefile. How can I make WinExplorer show Size of FOLDERS? To ask a computer to compute the size of a folder does not seem unreasonable. There are many benefits to being able to know filesize, being able to sort by filesize, etc. Thanks in advance. This venue is the best money Microsoft ever spent.

Windows has never shown the size of a folder, so why do you think it should be there in Win 7? You must really be new to Windows; there is no C:/. That's Unix notation. Windows has C:\.

Hi Adding the ability to enumerate folder sizes would add at least an extra few seconds, or more, to display a folder each time you navigated to, and selected a new folder in Windows Explorer. This was an important consideration in previous versions of Windows, and even more important in the newer versions because of the much larger folder sizes. Remember that a folder, by default, takes up no space. The only items that take up space are files, which means that the folder size value could only be determined by enumerating all of the files in each folder. This delay would be unacceptable for most users. An important part of the mantra that the Windows Developers used for Windows 7 was "Milliseconds Matter". :) You can see the individual folder sizes in Windows 7, by enabling the pop-up description. Open Organize/Folder Options. Click the View Tab and make sure that Display file size information in folder tips and Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items are both selected. With these 2 options enabled, when you hover the cursor over a folder, the pop-up will show the folder size and number of files in the folder. Hope this helps. Thank You for using Windows 7 Ronnie Vernon MVP

You are a wealth of information Mr. Ronnie and for that I thank you (and Microsoft for having this venue) very much. Great point on the "folders have no size" theory; I never thought of it that way. I was surprised to see a C drive with nothing but Win7 and a couple programs taking up 66gb of disc space. I see it's the hiber and page for 7gb still leaving 59gb some where. Even if you put me down for 10gb on program files, there's still something big somewhere. I have tons of disc space so that's not an issue. I was just thinking of upgrading to ssd's to see how they work but at 66gb I'll need the 120gb ssd's. My experience on previous Win installations is that 30gb is (was) plenty. Thanks again for the help as always!

Wrong, Mr. Dee...Windows has always displayed folder size in the explorer status bar. The status bar could be selected from the view option. Now in Windows 7 the status bar only displays a count. I think we should be able to apply properties to the status bar like any file, but I have not found a way for that yet. I am NOT seeing a folder tip even after making these settings. If someone else knows of some other way to fix either problem please let me know.
