Folder icon in Windows Explorer
When I click a folder's name in navigation pane, in order to see its contents in the right pane, some of the sub-folders in there have a different icon (not just the usual yellow-folder icon), according each sub-folder's contents. Specifically, when the sub-folder holds mp3 files, the folder icon is a photo from the cover of the music album where the mp3 files belong to.The strange thing is that from all the sub-folders (all with mp3 files) only a few of them have the album photo icon, while the rest just have the yellow-folder icon.Where does Windows Explorer retrieve the information from, on what icon to display for each sub-folder?Is there a way to manually instruct Windows Explorer to use the albumphoto of my choice? Is there a way to just remove that album photo and go back to the simple yellow-folder icon?

Folder icon can come from the Desktop.ini file (within that folder) or in the registry. Also you can place a file named folder.jpg or folder.gif to use it as the folder logo. And, you can change the folder icon by accessing the folder properties and clicking the Customize tab.Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP

I run Windows Explorer as admin, the Show hidden filesis enabled, the hide protected files is unchecked, and yet still can't see any of the desktop.ini, folder.jpg, folder.gif. So, this is not the case.On the other hand, selecting the default icon in Customize tab has no result. The albim photo is still in the folders icon.If I want to check the registry, which is the Key for that kind of information? Thanks

Hi, Do you see the Album files in the navigation bar on the left, or in the right pane? The Albums are belong to the MP3 files. When you launch WMP, in the library you would see that some of the listed music have a picture as its album. Some music may not have picture. The album picture are the Album files you find. If you remove the MP3 file, its Album will be removed either. Arthur Xie - MSFT
