Folder exist, files disappear in Window 7, why ?
Just bought a new SONY VAIO VPCS125FG, pre-installed with Windows 7. Happily, backup all folders and files from my old HP Pavillion and then recover all these files and folders to the new SONY. The 2 processes went smoothly. With a delighted heart to enjoy a brand new PC with latest Windows, I was shocked to find that files in each recovered folder disappear. All folders exsit but no files found in any one of these folders. Reading the property of these folders, it contains zero files. So far, I have opereated this new SONY only as an administrator, full access to anything. What may have gone wrong ? Reading property of the harddisk, it says 149G bytes is free, meaning 150G bytes is used. Seems to say that all files are recovered into the harddisk but just can't see them with Window Explorer. For those files that I created instead of recovered, they are visible. Only those recovered from previous PC disappear. Why ? How to see them properly ?

Maybe try opening a command prompt (Orb->Run->cmd <ENTER, and browsing to the folder(s) where you thought you placed the files. Then do a DIR command and see if they show up. I'll bet they are safely there, but something in Explorer (permissions?) is preventing you from seeing them. If so, maybe others here will be able to help. At least it might provide SOME comfort to know they are there.Windows XP Professional - 32-bit version --- Dual Booting With a Hardly-Used --- Window 7 Home Premium Retail - 64-bit version =========================================================== PC: Custom-built, SuperMicro MB - Dual Nocona Processors - 800 MHz FSB - 6GB DDR2 RAM - Approximately 5TB of internal storage on six assorted (Seagate and WD) drives using 3ware RAID Solution - ATI FireGL 7100 Video Card

thanks for the suggestion. I'm getting nervous now because the DIR command gets the same result, folder names are seen but no file is found inside any of these folders. Did anyone experience missing files in Window 7 ?

Hi Bean Chan, I suspect if the files are hidden, so please use DIR /A instead of DIR to check the folder under Command Prompt. Best regards, Miya Yao
