Folder Redirection not working
Hi, We decided we would start to test Windows 7 on the network a couple of weeks ago. We moved our IT Support department across with no initial problems using the already existing home drives, folder redirection settings and roaming profiles. However, when it came to creating a new account we have had persistent issues with folder redirection. If the user logs into Vista, everything works as intended - \\Server1\Home$\Username is created with the account, upon first logon "Applying Folder Redirection Policy..." creates the folders in the share previously mentioned. When i go to the users folder on the start menu or desktop all of the subfolders (Documents, Pictures, Videos, Favourites etc...) all point to C:\Users\Username... Event Viewer shows logs to suggest folder redirection has no issues, event info is below. "Successfully applied policy and redirected folder "Documents" to "\\server1\home$\username\Documents". Redirection options=0x80009001." When i manually navigate to \\server1\home$\username i can save files with no issues. If i log into this account in Vista, evereything is as intended, folder redirection applies, event viewer agrees, I can navigate to the users folder and all areas point to\\server1\home$\username. How can this be? Server Info - Server 2008R2 DC, Server 2003 Functional Level, Server 2003R2 Storage Edition for the Profile / Home Drive's. All current updates etc... Any help \ suggestions \ ideas would be great as i have spent almost 2 full working days working on this. Many thanks, Simon Roberts

What are the symptoms of the issue? Please let us know more information. A possible issue is that the network connection is not established when the folder redirection or synchronization works. You may check the network adapter driver on Windows 7 computers. Please install Windows 7 compatible drivers. Also I suggest you configure the following policy to wait for the network connection when logon. Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\Always wait for network at computer startup and logon Please enable this policy for Windows 7 clients.Arthur Xie - MSFT

This policy was already enabled. Symptoms are as follows - when a new account has been created, and a first time logon is performed on a Windows 7 machine, folder redirection creates the folders on the server (Contacts, Desktop, My Documents. Music, Videos etc...) however once the user gets to the desktop, and opens there username folder from the desktop all of the folders points to C:\username\..... Folder redirection logs in Event Viewer state that there were no issues. If the user logs into a Vista machine, folder redirection applies as normal. Simon

Turned out it was the following group policy setting "Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Explorer\Verify old and new folder redirection targets point to the same share before redirecting" Once this was "Not Configured" everything returned to normal.
