Folder Attributes / picture properties
I have upgrade my new Pc to vista home premium, and wishing i never did now. Any how, i seem to be having afew problems. Ican't change the folder attributes. alot of my folders are set to read only. when i unclick this and click apply, it goes through the motions of doing this, but when i re check the folder, the read only has default back on by itself and i've tried many times to stop this. Also, i can't seem to change the folder picture (picture that appears on the folders) never had this problem with xp, but it doesn't seem to work on vista no matter what i do. Vista seems to radomly apply picutres to my folders which are ones i dont want. I have clicked on the fond picture and applied this too, but the box is still blank and yet again does not work. All the above is when i'm logged on as the administrater as i'm the only person that uses my Pc anyway. Please help, as at least this will solve one of many other problems vista has done to my PC.

The read only attribute on folders is a legacy throwback from DOS. Windows uses it to determine whether the folder has a customized Explorer view, changing it in the GUI won't actually make any difference. If you have issues changing the contents of folders, you probably want to check the NTFS permissions rather than the attributes (though some older applications will respect the read only attribute on individual files)

Thanks for that. Any idea about the folder pictures though?

Nope, sorry. Changing the folder icon seems to work fine for me.
