Folder Access Denied - Require permission from ME to make changes?!?

okay, I've read thru most of your "Folder Access Denied" posts, and none of them seem to cover the issue I have.

I've uninstalled a security program, but it didn't completely remove its folders. but it won't let me remove them because it says I don't have permission to. sure, fine. I'm an old-pro at changing Permissions myself, so I right-click the folder and go to Security, and set myself as Owner, and give my user Full Control, and apply this to this folder subfolders and files. I check the box to replace all child permission entries, so that it will flow on down the subdirs, and hit OK twice. now when I go to delete the folder it says it requires permission from me (my username) to make changes to this folder.

okaaaaay...so I go back in and change the owner to Everyone, and give Everyone Full Control over this and all subfolders and files. now it says I need permission from Everyone to make changes to this folder.

?????

what is going on? did I miss something? isn't Everyone...EVERYONE, and would that not include the person trying to delete the folder? any thoughts?

there are dozens of subfolders and over a hundred files in all. it would take way too much time to do all that one at a time. isn't that what editing permissions is supposed to accomplish?
