Folder Access Denied - Require permission from ME to make changes?!?

okay, I've read thru most of your "Folder Access Denied" posts, and none of them seem to cover the issue I have.

I've uninstalled a security program, but it didn't completely remove its folders. but it won't let me remove them because it says I don't have permission to. sure, fine. I'm an old-pro at changing Permissions myself, so I right-click the folder and go to Security, and set myself as Owner, and give my user Full Control, and apply this to this folder subfolders and files. I check the box to replace all child permission entries, so that it will flow on down the subdirs, and hit OK twice. now when I go to delete the folder it says it requires permission from me (my username) to make changes to this folder.

okaaaaay...so I go back in and change the owner to Everyone, and give Everyone Full Control over this and all subfolders and files. now it says I need permission from Everyone to make changes to this folder.

?????

what is going on? did I miss something? isn't Everyone...EVERYONE, and would that not include the person trying to delete the folder? any thoughts?

Is the folder empty? Try deleting the file first inside that, then folders.

Reboot once you delete all of them and try again.

Yes, hope you're selecting "Replace all child object permission entries with .... "

Hi,

Regarding to current information, it seems that any process may block files and folders you want to access.

Please use Handle tool below to check:

Handle

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896655.aspx

Handle is a utility that displays information about open handles for any process in the system. You can use it to see the programs that have a file open, or to see the object types and names of all the handles of a program.

Copy handle.exe to C:\Windows\system32 folder.

Run cmd.exe as administrator

Type handle -a C:\Test in command prompt, then it will list all handles and processes accessing this folder.

Note: I support C:\Test  is the folder you have no permission to access.

If it shows that any **.exe is accessing c:\Test. Then, we can use handle c command to close the handles, along with the handle ID, and the process ID, and then "y" switch to confirm the delete.

Then, try to take full permission of this folder and remove it.

Also, you can try to take permission and remove it in Safe mode if above steps don't work.
