Folder's won't copy from Windows 8.1 to NAS Drive

I have a windows 8.1 laptop and am having an issue Copying or Moving folders from it to my NAS drive. I have no problem with my Windows 7 box. Here is the odd thing, when I attempt to drag and drop a folder with a song in it, the folder will copy, but the song does not. So basically it creates a copy of the folder on the NAS drive but there is no data in the folder, i.e. mp3, .avi. As a test I tried to copy a mp3 file out of the folder on the Windows 8.1 laptop to the NAS drive and that works. I also zipped a file and tried to cop that over from the Windows 8.1 laptop, again it copied the zip folder but not the data inside the folder. I've tried this with a documents folder no luck, but I can highlight the individual documents in the folder on the Windows 8.1 laptop and drag them to the NAS drive and that works.

I have Admin rights to all this stuff, I even mapped a folder in the NAS as a network drive via the Windows 8.1 laptop and still the same problem. I don't have this issue with the Windows 7 machines, I can select all the folders from that machine and copy them over with no problem. As a final test I selected some folders on the NAS drive and tried to Move them to another folder on the same NAS drive, no luck there either. I've noticed one thing strange, When I selected all the folders using the Windows 8.1 Laptop and attempt to drag them to the NAS drive it begins to calculate and identify all the data in all the folders, it takes about a minute to do this and then begins to or attempts to write the folders into the NAS then it abruptly stops, shows that it copied one folder out of the 200 or so I have, and there is no data within that folder, it's completely empty. Can anyone explain or help me fix this.

Again keep in mind I can do the one item, or number of the items, it just won't copy folders over.

Thanks

Hi,

From the problem description, it's really a strange issue. We would to perform the following steps to narrow down this issue.

1. Copy a folder which have files(like .mp3 .avi) within it to a removable disk(U disk) to see if only the folder be created on the destination path.

2. Since even we copy a folder in the NAS to another path in the same NAS, this issue persist, not sure if there is some compatibility issue between this NAS with Windows 8.1 operating system.

3. Boot the Windows 8.1 to clean boot mode, then try to reproduce this issue and let me know the result.

1)    Log on to the computer by using an account that has Administrator rights.

2)    Press Win+S keys to search msconfig.exe, and then run msconfig.exe as Administrators to open System Configuration Utility.

3)    On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)

4)    On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then
click Disable all.

5)    Click OK, Choose Dont show this message again and then click Restart.

If youwant to start Windows normally after you do the test, run msconfig.exe to open the System Configuration Utility. On the General tab, click Normal Startup. Click OK, Choose Dont show this message again and then click Restart.

If the issue don't persists on a removable disk (u disk) and only on a Windows 8.1 with NAS, we suggest to change another Windows 8.1 computer to see if the same issue, if yes, may be some issue between Windows 8.1 and NAS.

If you have another model NAS, please also try to reproduce this issue and let me know the result.

Best Regards

I confirm : everyone on the planet is getting the same issue : from windows 8.1 to a NAS : doesn't copy without message, just creates silently the first folder and leave it empty.

every other combination works : from windows 7 to the same NAS, windows 8.1 to an USB key, everything works.

for your information, a NAS is a standalone device, not a computer, you can only manage it remotely.

so just stop asking about details about the error message, there isn't any.

this is not something you can fix by making settings or reading KB. you have to make the test yourself if you don't believe your customers, and once you'll understand that this is a serious bug, you have to escalate to the development teams to alter the windows 8 code to make it work almost as well as a windows 7 can.

pardon me if i speak hardly, but i've just made a dozen of internet searches, and the whole platet seems to be aware of this issue, you are the only one who ignores it or ask an unrelated question. on another hand, your are the ony ones that can fix it. Don't try to incriminate the NAS firmware as you were able to deal with it in windows 7.

if you need more info, just make an internet search with the following terms :

"windows 8.1" when copying on a "network drive" nas

so much people are complaining about this point since 2013.

when do you expect to release a fix ?

anyone can reproduce the issue. did you even try ?

or you just suppose that since there is no reply for such a long time, they probably all migrated to Linux ?
