Fold Extension
Hello, Hope you can help me as this drives me crazy: All of sudden I found all the folders have exe extension. So, Windows recognized them as system files. I tried to change them back to folders (as they have many important files inside) but in vain. Please help. Is there any easy and quick fix to this. Thanks, Sarah

Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - Right click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Type dir "%userprofile%\documents" /ad /s |more * The character preceding more (|more) at the end of the line is the pipe character not an l (L) or a 1 (one). Press Shift + \ for the pipe character, usually above the enter key. This pages the output one screen at a time. Peruse the output of all your folders in and under My Documents. Do they appear normal in this view. -- . -- "Sarah Alain" wrote in message news:eedb5936-d0e7-4528-b9ee-dbcb3c7ec0bc... > Hello, > > > Hope you can help me as this drives me crazy: All of sudden I found all the folders have exe extension. Did you paste it into a command prompt, normally a black window? The Start menu is composed of folders, are the menus there working? What programs can you start? -- .. -- "Sarah Alain" wrote in message news:82858db7-777c-45ab-b227-506163112477... > > > > Hello David, > > > > > Thank you so much, really appreciate this. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. Yes, I clicked start, All Programs - Accessories - Right click Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator. Then, a black window opened, so I pasted what you kindly wrote. Then, I got the following: What should I do next? Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. There was a question mark at the end of the line that somehow appeared. The command finally worked and shows nothing wrong with those folders listed. Are those folders listed as exe files when viewed in explorer. BTW this is a Vista group not Windows 7. -- .. -- "Sarah Alain" wrote in message news:f9a3001d-70d7-4d4f-9fc5-7a102ff1958d... > > I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. It might becaused by a shell extension. Explorer is built on addin programs called Shell Extensions. The standard ones are supplied by MS but programs add their own. Download http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html Disable all non Microsoft shell extensions Press Ctrl + Shift + Escape On the Process tab select explorer and right click and choose End Process Repeat if more than one explorer in the list Click the File menu then New Task (Run) and type explorer and if it helps, reenable one by one to identify which one. It might be caused by a third party program. Try clean boot troubleshooting. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796 -- . -- "DavidMCandy" wrote in message news:ce3fe47c-143a-4a03-bc27-7cf07d778862... > There was a question mark at the end of the line that somehow appeared.
