First ping fails, subsequent pings work fine...
Hi all, About 3 weeks ago tcp & ping connections (to local servers/PCs, not the interweb) started to fail the first time, but work after that. Everyone elses PC/Laptop in the office are fine, and they all use a combination of XP, Vista and Win7. As time goes on, the existing connections that work stay working, but if I want another connection, it again fails the first time but works after that. This happens if I want to connect to local PCs (XP, Vista, Win7) and servers running various linux flavours. Programs/protocols affected: Outlook (IMAP to local mail sever) telnet ping ssh ftp proprietory programs IE, Chrome, Firefox I've tried: Running Windows update removing the drivers and reinstalling plugging into the wall with different cables used different wall ports switching between static and dynamic ip I haven't tried: rolling back to when I know it worked - I don't have time and can live with starting the connections/programs I need first thing. I have tried various Microsoft diag tools to no avail - they are all designed for noobs and only cover basic networking problems, like "have you plugged the cable in?" Any help would be appreciated!

Hello John, Based on my experience, if all the clients in the same network face the same network inconsistent issue, we need to check if the network transmission are impacted by some factors. This issue may not be quite related to Windows 7. Is there any problematic / wrongly configured router or switch inside the network? Please check the core network device as the first step. Thanks. Hi Miya, Thanks for responding, but you missed the point - It's just me and I'm on Windows 7! As I said, everyone else in the office is fine, and use a combination of XP, vista and Win7 connecting to each other and some linux based servers. For me, remote access out through the router and site-to-site vpn is fine and works with no issues, it's just local connections... It's like when you have an automatic dial VPN setup - it detects that you want to connect over the VPN and dials it. While it is dialing, you obviously don't get a response (timeout, connection failure etc.), but when it is finished dialling, it is fine. Also, I've tried clearing the ARP cache (as per here), and that has no affect either... It's really odd!
