My vista PC has 1 physical nic connected to a domain network. The domain firewall profile is set to "active" in "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security". All of my inbound and outbound settings are configured in that profile.Here is my problem: I installed VMware workstation 6 and it configures 2 local virtual ethernet adapters. The 2 local virtual adapters are for "host only" connection and are not on the domain. Once the adapters are installed and active, the firewall profile automatically changes to "Public" and all my preconfigured settings are gone. I can't figure out a way to force the domain profile to active other than to disable the 2 virtual adapters. Does anyone know how to force profiles?Thanks!

Could you disable the firewall on those network adapters? Does that help at all? I think one of the number 1 frustrations with Vista's firewall is the way it handles profileswith multiple active networks.

Disabling the firewall on the 2 virtual adapters does not solve this issue. Anyone?

Maybe you can try another firewall like Zonealarm's freebie. So maybe VMWare doesnt know how to fiddle with the settings in ZoneAlarm firewall.

Technically it's not VMware that is fiddling with the settings. This is a built in feature in Vista; whenever a second network adapter is connected and it has a less secure connection, the firewall profile automatically switches to that profile. It may be a nice feature for the "everyday" users, but for those of us who are admins it would be nice to be able to force a profile.
