Attempting to learn how to configure the Vista FireWall - OUTBOUND. I have performed the following steps: RUN - WF.MSC to open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. New Outbound Rule - Rule Type - Program Program - This Program Path: %ProgramFiles%\IntenetExplorer\iexplorer.exe Action - Allow the connection Profile - All three Name - Internet Explorer Then on Private Profile tab Outbound Connections changed from Allow (Default) to Block. Now Internet Explorer will not access the Internet. I connected to the net using a Dlink ADSL rounter DSL502T. I am NOT on aDomain. What did I do wrong or did I leave something out?

Sometimes is not iexplore.exe the executable of the outbound connection. I'm using avast with Vista: it's the provider "Web Shield" (ashWebSv.exe) that connects to Internet. Utilities like TCPView can help. Adding Notifications to Outbound Connections when the default behaviour (Allow) is changed to Blocked can be a great improvement... There is a way to eneble them? I tried everything...

so......... Is there a way to enable Notifications for Outbound Connections?? Or if not, does anyone know whether this will be added later? Would sure assist with setting up outbound connection rules, if you could block all programs and then make a decison to allow or deny aprogram as it tries to connect. As mentioned previously, sometimes it is not that apparent what program to add using "browse"!! Thnx LawLessOne

you can try to use Zone Alarm free version which is very good. it warns you about inbound and outbound connections. I installed it on my pc because it kept download a lot of stuff and i didnt know which program was doing that. in the end it was google update which was updating its software on my PC without warning me. here is the link for zonealarm it lets you decide which program allows for outbound and inbound connection.webmaster of webtlk.com
