Filesharing - 3 sessions for each user connection
For some arcane reason each user connection to a network
share hosted on a Windoze 7 Pro machine that is joined to a domain (w2k pdc) creates no less than 3 sessions as seen in the "Computer Management" console under System Tools>Shared Folders.
One sessions'username it that of the machine that is
connecting with a $ at the end (SALES1$). As well as 2 more sessions in the users' name (Frank).
This share holds an executable that each user is launching.
I understand that M$ limits the number of concurrent user connections to 20. However, after 6 users connect - generating 18 sessions - the next user that tries to connect cannot. So, in my experience win7Pro is limited to 20 SESSIONS not USERS, and furthermore
that windoze is gobbling up those sessions 3 at a time, instead of 1!Thanks

Hi,
I would like to ask you some questions below:
1. What kind of user the client machine use? The domain user or local user?
2. Do you use the other client software to connect the files sharing machine?
3. Do you use any monitor software? The software use default file share to scan the workstation.
Also, you can try to change the NTLM level.

Hi Jake,
Thanks for your questions.
1. Most are win7 clients, a couple are xp - doesn't seem to change the number of connections though. All domain users.
2. no
3. no
When an isolated pair (1 acting as a server, 1 as a client) of win7 machines are setup as a workgroup the client generates only 1 session!
I've also uninstalled any shell extensions (7-zip) and anti-virus (symantec endpoint protection) with no change in the number of sessions.
ThanksThanks
