Files lost during network copy operation
Today I learnt a nasty lesson. I tried to use the SendTo function to send a folder (and it's contents) to a blank CD and lost over 200mb of files. My music collection is large 150gig and stored on a NAS, I have it organized by ARTIST\ALBUM, so there are a large number of folders under the ARTIST folder. The reason I bring this up is the amazing amount of time it takes to browse or start any file operation (first complaint). After waiting what seemed an eternity I select the artist folder and using the Right mouse click SendTo function, directed the folder to be sent tomy DVD/RW burner. The copy dialog identified 206mb of files and then went into limbo, I waited at least 10 mins and not a single file had started being copied, so I tried to cancel the operation, intially by using cancel from the taskbar icon and then later (yes the cancel never seemed to finish either) by using the copy dialog close (x). Neither immedietly closed the dialog. I walked away at that point to try and perform the copy using my laptop. Note: The copy dialog did change it's heading to reflect the fact that it was being cancelled. It was at this point that I tried to repeat the process using my WinXP laptop and discovered that the files had been permanently removed from my NAS.I could have burnt my cd in any number of ways, but apparently I choose the solution that corrupts the original content :(I'm using the Public version of Win 7 running on AMD 64xI have applied to be an official Beta tester, but so far no response.
