Files disappeared after file transfer between a harddrive and a raid 5 array
Hi After creating a software raid 5 array consisting of 4 1.5tb disks using a Highpoint Rocketraid 2220 controller I encountered a delicate problem. After creating the volume and partitioning it to one 'big disk' i transferred a set of files to the new partition but these do not show in the destination partition (raid 5 array) nor are they located in their original location -by this i mean that they do not appear in the file browser. To add further confusion: when opening explorer the original disk is showing the same level of use in terms of available hard drive space and the host partition (raid 5 array) is shown as empty. Using the quick scan function in Piriforn Recuva it shows that the files are on the raid array. So I should be able to recover the files. However, I wonder what might have caused this problem, and more so whether it would be hardware, software or a combination of the two that caused the problem. I guess there could be some issue with indexing the content on the disk (?) or am I completely wrong? This problem is fairly weird and any help would be appreciated. PS: I have tried reboots which did not help. Sometimes it just fixes things =) PS2: hidden files and folders is not a problem, i checked that
