File sharing problems
I have several machines on a basic network. 2 of them live in my hall closet and act as file servers to the computers through out the house (AVI & Mpeg files mainly). I have operated the servers like this for at least 4.5 years now with no problems. Suddenly i find i can't rename, move or delete files in network folders on the servers when trying to do so from mapped folders on other machines in the house which have permissions to do so. The problem goes away if i reset the server the particular folder is on i want to alter but returns within 20/30 minutes of resetting. If i login to the server locally (via remote desktop or physically on the machine) i can rename, move or delete files during this time with no problem until 20/30 minutes is up. But if i try to do this via another machine via the network share to the folder, the problem comes back immediately. Something is not releasing the handles for the files in these folders. I've used Process Explorer to confirm the problem is network based. Initially when i've reset the server and looked at any of the files immediately with Process Explorer it shows there are no open handles. When i connect to any of the files in a particular folder, the file then has 4 System processes holding handles to that file and these are never released. I even tried connecting to the same folder/file from another machine and i found i had another 4 System processes then holding open another 4 handles making 8 in total. Help
