File sharing crashes when copying files across network
Hi there, I am having issues when copying files across my network. I have two computers; one has Vista 64 and the other Win 7 64. The Win 7 has a handful of shared folders on it. I can see those shared folders from my Vista machine just fine. I can browse the folders just fine as well. However, sometimes copying files to the Win 7 machine will fail. When this happens the share access to the Win 7 machine stops working, and I have to reboot the Win 7 machine to regain share access to it. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas about how to resolve this problem? Thank you Les

I found some info on other sites about this same problem. One poster suggested this "To resolve, I went into the driver properties, clicked Advanced / Task Offload, and I turned this feature off." I tried that out last night and was able to copy 120GB with no issues. Seems like it was the problem. If anything changes I will post back here again, but so far it seems to be fixed.

Hi, I strongly recmmend to disable both the sides firewall for a test. Then please check whether you have the modify permission of the shared folder. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Well that didn't solve the problem after all. I had it happen to me again last night. I was copying 50GBs of files and it crashed on me. I was lucky enough to come back to the computer and see the error message up on screen this time though. Normally I come back to the computer to only find things screwed up. The error message was 0x80070079. It said something about a timeout situation. I did a google search about this error code, but I didn't really find anything useful. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? Thank you

I found this post http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistanetworking/thread/c3fc9f5d-c073-4a9f-bb3d-b7bb8f893f78 that is a long ongoing discussion about this error. There are a lot of people having this problem, but it is difficult to find anything that is similar amongst all the scenarios. Some people are using wireless, some wired, some not even copying across a network at all. Because of this, it is hard to figure out which of their solutions really is the right solution. Has anyone made sense of this yet? Thanks again
