File save time different than system time
I have recently noticed that the times of files I am saving have a different time than what the system clock is showing. An example is I just saved a file and the system time (using every tool I can including the DOS 'time /T' command) says it is 10:21AM 13 May 2011. The file save time says 13 May 2011 10:45AM. I have even verified the BIOS time and it too is correct. This is a bit disconcerting. Has anyone else run into this situation and if so, have you figured out what the cause is. Thanks

This 'answer' was not even CLOSE to the mark (unless it is BURIED in the 'other solutions' that I DID NOT SEARCH THROUGH). Now if my times had been an hour off, I could understand this. But the problem I am having has nothing to do with "TIME ZONES". The Windows Explorer clock is setting the time a file is saved 20 minutes ahead of the REAL WORLD time. For example, the current time is 12 noon and I save a file. The time shown in the Windows Explorer 'date/time' column would be 12:20 PM. Again, the clock in the windows task bar and the bios clock are correct (against at least TWO external clocks set to international time standard radio signals).

There's no such thing as "save time". Assuming you're saving files onto an NTFS volume, there are Created, Modified, and Accessed times. Normally the Modified time is what's referred-to if you aren't seeing an explicit heading (e.g., a CMD window DIR shows Modified times). You can show these in an Explorer "Details" view or use right-click Properties to see them. Are all off similarly? FYI, to answer your question, I have never seen such a disparity. -Noel
