File level permissions in XP
Basic question about file level permissions in Windows XP...I have a workgroup and I want to set file-level permissions but the Security tab does not show up when I right click on a file/folder/etc. The dirve is NTFS. Do I have to have a domain in order for the Security tab to show up??? I've looked high and low for the "show Security tab" option, but I can'find it!Alex

Hi Alex, Please understand that this Forum deal mainly with the issue related to Windows Vista Operating System. Regarding the Windows XP related issues, I suggest submitting them to Windows XP Newsgroup. The support professionals there are better qualified to assist you. For you convenience, I've listed the website of Windows Server XP Newsgroup: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general Additionally, I performed some researches regarding this issue and found that you can disable Simple File Sharing to display the Security tab. For more information, refer to the following KB article: How to disable simplified sharing and set permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307874 Hope it helps.
