File history error(s)

Hi,

I would like to be able to use File History (now that I know about it!), but can't get it working.

When I use Run Now, it says it has, but only seconds later and the backup log shows nothing but Error entries (with the exception of Family Tree Maker, which it can and has backed up?!) and two Warning entries (further below) since November.

Unfortunately, the Event Log Online Help link takes me to Page not found. I have searched for and read some other File History questions, but found nothing similar.

I'm hoping someone can suggest a solution from the log info below?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

For this issue, please ensure that no files was be shared on the network.

It seems that it is related to existing user profile.

I suggest you delete config files from the following location.

C:\Users\****\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config

If it doesn't work, please create a new account to test it.

Keep post.

After hours of searching for a possible solution to the file history config + finalization & one other event where the file was not found, I found your answer.  It was something that no one has suggested or that I could find anywhere in my day long search.  I was trying to backup to usb 62 Gb using file history for the 1st time & got those 2 warnings/events (8 instances in all, 4 each).  I know I do have some file sharing on so this will be a promising simple solution & will try it out.  Thanks.

This will probably sound like a stupid question, but why would simple file sharing cause the File History config to fail? My Event 203(s) read pretty much the same as scotbruce's... ( "Unable to finish a backup cycle for configuration C:\Users\john_000\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\FileHistory\Configuration\Config" )... but I don't see how sharing files should have any affect on how the FileHistory B/U config file runs.  Regardless, apparently it does, or might, but the way Windows 8/8.1 (& Probably 10-!) is Set Up (for "Multiple users to be able to access all their Microsoft accounts"... yeah - Right*!) it seems to Me that that there should be No Problem with file-sharing for the HomeGroups AND still have the File History Backup CONFIG still function properly.

What say yee, Microsoft tech gurus & update wizards..? Can this problem Be Fixed before another year goes by (Please)? Or allow us to do simple file sharing, through the file/folder properties, without having to use the sky-drive..?

sincerely & Best regards,

John

ps- The File History control panel says it will Copy files from Libraries, Desktop, Contacts, etc AND One-Drive (which IS the network, isn't it .. at least for home PC's.. ?)
