File Sharing between Windows Vista and XP SP3 conflict with Zune
I am having issues file sharing between my Windows Vista Desktop and my Windows XP laptop. I can see all of the shared files and folders on the Vista machine from the XP machine but I cannot add or modify anything. On the XP computer I get the error message "Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use." when attempting to copy a file from the XP computer to the Vista computer. Initially I could not see the XP machine from the Vista machine. I could only see the Media sharing device on the network, not the computer or any of its files, until I first deactivated the Zune service on the XP machine. This removed the media sharing device and created the computer and its files and allowed me to view, copy and edit all of the XP files from the vista computer. I could then restart the Zune service without losing this ability. Unfortunately, I still cannot modify anything on the Vista computer from the XP computer. I have tried all of the following. -Upgraded to SP3 from SP2. -Created a login account on the Vista computer matching the Username and password of my login account on the XP computer. -Added my new login to the Share Permissions list on the folder I am trying to access and gave it Full Control. -Verified that Everyone had Full Control on the folder I am trying to access. -Verified that my network is Private. -Verfied that Network Discovery, Public Folder Saring, File sharing and Media Sharing are On. -Verfied that my Sharing is open to Everyone for both viewing, changing and creating files. -Disabled both firewalls. -Stopped the Zune Service with results as described above. -Restarted the Zune Service with results as described above. Any ideas on what else I could try?

Did you ever resolve this problem you describe? I just got a Zune, and am having the same trouble on an external drive that I use between my laptop (Win 7) and my desktop at work (XP).

unshare the folders first. do a system restart(i mean on ur Vista shares). now reshare those folders, this time when you are prompted to choose "PEOPLE TO SHARE THIS FOLDER WITH" type EVERYONE, on the permission level dropdown list, select co-owner.goodluck
