File Sharing and Homegroup issues
I'm running 2 laptops with Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit), both are hard-wired and wireless connected to my network (same workgroup) and are Home-Grouped together. I attempted to share a file on one of the laptops, when I click on any of the "share with" options, the only option I have is "advanced sharing" when I click on it, the "share" button is grayed out, I've tried this on multiple files in multiple locations, same thing everywhere. I try to use the advanced sharing option but every time I try to open the folder on the other computer, I get an Access Denied message. The strange thing is, I have the exact same settings on the other computer, but I have the ability to add folders to the home group, which I can then access from the first computer. I suppose I should mention that the computer that is working right was a purchase, while the one that is not was upgraded from Vista.

Hi,
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
1. Logon with your Administrator account to see how it works.
2. Create new folder and then check if you can share it.
3. Leave HomeGroup and see if you can share the folders or files.
Hope this helps.Nicholas Li - MSFT

Thank you for the assistance, but I've tried all of those without luck. I have also tried the following 1. Creating the homegroup on both computers 2. Changing the name of the WorkGroup on both computers 3. Re-joining the HomeGroup several times.

Hi,
For the issue that, when you right-click on a folder and select Share with, only the advanced sharing item appears, please see if you can get other items back with the following steps:
1. Go to Control Panel
2. Select Large icons in View by and then open Folder Options.
3. Switch to the View tab and check the item User Sharing Wizard (Recommended).
4. Click OK to apply the setting.
5. Then, please check the Share with menu again to see if it works.
In addition, please also ensure that you have assigned the Full-Control permissions to Everyone on both Sharing and Security tabs of the share folders properties. Then try to access the shares and see if it works. If an error message appears, please also let us know it in details.
Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
