File Sharing/Homegroup Issues
I have two computers running the Windows 7 RC - my custom desktop running 64-bit and my Toshiba laptop running 32-bit, and I am having a very hard time trying to get file sharing to work between the two. They are running on my home network, and both are configured with the connection set to home. I have changed the file sharing settings to allow file sharing in public and private networks, I have allowed network discoveries, I have turned on 128-bit encryption, and I have turned off passworded sharing. I always have the settings on both computers matched if I do change anything, but no go. I was trying last night to at least get the two computers to see each other and nothing would work. It took me about an hour alone to get the laptop to see the homegroup my desktop created but no matter how many times I would enter the password and run the troubleshooter/network diagnostic, the laptop would not connect to the homegroup - it kept telling me "This device cannot create a homegroup". I got fed up with trying and let them both sit on the network screen. After two hours they finally recognized eachother (without being in a homegroup) and I was able to share files between the two. This morning, the desktop was still seeing the laptop in the network screen but the laptop was not seeing the desktop and I could not share files. I have tried all the settings but nothing seems to be working. Both computers were left on all night so I don't know why they stopped seeing eachother since nothing changed. Windows 7 was supposed to be easier to share files but it has just given me headaches... Thanks for any answers.
