File Share Access Over VPN
Hi All I'm new here so apologies if this is in the wrong place! We've just deployed our first Win 7 machine in to our Domain so that the IT team can get their heads around what's changed, how to support and what needs to be adapted etc. Pretty much everything is fine (except it's 64-bit and so I have a host of app compatability issues) but whilst our LT2P/ipSec VPN connects and works fine, network share access is not possible; any network shares connected LAN-side just show with red crosses. When I try to map via command prompt I'm told "System error 2221. The user name could not be found". However, when I may via IP, e.g. net use n: \\192.168.1.9\network I am at least prompted for a username and password. Through the power of Google I was directed to the Windows Credentials Manager in User Accounts and creating a entry here for my username, password and the share server then allows me access to shares on that sever. However, this has two issues; Firstly the credentials stored are for that session only it seems. Secondly, even if they would store longer, our password policy is to rotate every 60 days. Could anyone offer any advice on how to proceed? I was thinking of updating the login details for the VPN to match those in AD, but again this would require continual management for our 15-20 VPN users. Thanks in advance! Dave
