File Access Lost When OS was Reloaded
Lost Mouse 7 Keyboard on a reboot. I couldn't do anything in "SAFE" mode. It wasn't hardware - had to reload XP (as well as all programs and drivers). Mouse and keyboard came back and are working fine. But I cannot access my old files because I did not list them as shared and I can no longer log on as my old "self". Over 50 GB of my data is still there but I cannot access it.1 person needs an answerI do too

I believe this would depend on the operating system (OS) you are using. Older operating systems are not capable of completing what I am about to suggest.Navigate to the location of your old files in Windows Explorer and select a folder that contains your old filesRight click any folder that contains your old files Select Sharing and Security (or something similar) In the Security tab, click the Advanced button and the Advance Security Setting dialog box should openChose the Owner tab and see if you (current user) are listed in the Change owner to sectionIf so, select the user (e.g. you) Check the box to ENABLE "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects"Click Apply and allow the permissions to be set Click Ok Click Ok You need to take Ownership of the files/folders to access them.Hope this helps!

Thank you. But I have XP (2002) Home SP3 and no owner shows under the advanced tab - so I still need a solution.
