Fax service default settings
Fax service default settings
I have trouble with Windows 7 fax and scan from time to time.
I have gone to services and have found that the Fax service is set to manual and is stopped at the moment.
Is it OK to set it to Automatic ?
Can you please tell me the exact settings for this service ?

1. Would you specify you problem? Services does not need to be running, I guess that is manual is set, then whenever you fax, the program start it itself.
2. Important are log files for logging
3. Reveal the content of Event logs.
4. Do you use modem that is in MS hardware compatibility list?
5. Also addres the modem vendor support forum.

Hi,
This service enables you to send and receive Faxes. If you donot have a Fax Modem or server installed or you do not use the computer to send fax. This service has no need to run so than any running status is fine. Furthermore, I
suggest you just leave it alone. it does not affect the other functions of your system.

In addition to my answer: There are special AT commands that should be set properly. Their default values are not suitable for any situation. For analog lines the "do not wait" command should be disabled as well as there is leading number and comma in the
case, when you are "going through" private exchange. Here is an example
0,47859632
where zero is for external "call" and comma means several second waiting time.
Fax server is running, if you set the fax service to listen status or if you are sending fax.

Hi,
I guess you should connect to a special service to use this stuff. There is a lot of such services,
Popfax, for example.
