Fatal Error Trying To SysPrep
have 6 machines, all bought at the same time with the same hardware, all HP. They run Windows 7 professional. I loaded all necessary software on one, created an image using the built in Windows tools and applied that image to these machines. Then I needed to Sysprep them to change their System IDs because this will be on a corporate network. The first 2 machines were fine, but the 3rd one got the issue "Fatal Error occurred while trying to sysprep the machine", the same goes for all machines after that. I've read that this is possibly when the Windows Media Player process is running but in this case the process is not running on any of the machines. Any ideas on where to post this?

Hi, Try killing the wmpnetwk.exe process if you have it running. Or visit the following website and see if it is helpful. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929828/en-us Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. The Sysprep itself works, there is no fatal error that occurs trying to Sysprep the machine. After the Sysprep is successful the machine is rebooted. At that point Windows will not boot anymore. It gets to the Windows startup loading screen then reboots itself in an endless loop always at that point.

After I run Sysprep and reboot the PC cannot start Windows at all. So I put in the HP System Restore Disk and it ran a startup repair on windows which attemps to repair these issues: "The following startup option will be repaired: Name: Windows Boot Manager Identifier: {9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795} The following startup option will be repaired: Name: Windows 7 Identifier: {92C2D5E9-788E-11DE-9936-001321BE213F} Windows Device: Partition=Not found" I run this repair and the PC reboots, upon this startup attempt I get the error messsage: "Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer." In which if I restart the PC it comes right back to that error message every time. So then I reloaded the image, ran Sysprep again and then go through the same exact process where Windows cannot startup.

Just another piece of information, I attempted to run a system recovery and it gave me an error message "BOOTMGR IS MISSING" This happens every time I sysprep any of these multiple machines, it seems to hose the boot manager.
