Fails to access www sites, but is able to access pop3 servers, a www3 site and some other http sites
I have latest XP updates installed and use a Netgear WG111v3 USB Wifi stick to connect to my wireless hub. All indications from local network are that the local network is working OK.As per subject line above, whilst I can access certain facilities on the internet, I can't access the ordinary www sites. This problem occurred after a virus attack: w32/HostInf-A and Mal/Behav-221. I used Sophos to clean them up and that appeared to have worked OK.I have since uninstalled/reinstalled the netgear wifi usb software and it has not fixed the problem. The problem exists with both IE V7 and Google Chrome. The error code from Chrome is "Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error"Any suggestions please? TIA .... Thanks Jack, firstly I tried resetting TCP/IP. The script seemed to run Ok, it took a few seconds before the command prompt returned. Strike 1.I then tries winsockxpfix. It seemed to run OK but the problem remained after the restart. Strike 2.I then ran LSPFix.exe. It said there were no problems. Strike 3 and I'm still out. The symptoms have not changed. What would you suggest now please? TIA ... Greg

HiWhile many "Junk" cleaners are very good, None of them can clean everything, they always are missing something. Thus, you have to try few more scanners, also look at the running processes to make sure that the system is clean. This excellent page (courtesy of Moderator Malkeleah) can provide further help.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_MalwareIf you do further clean repeat the process as in my first post. Well, I can be so lucky. I read the elephantboys page and was groaning at the need for so much persistence and patience when towards the end there was a comment about trojans setting proxy servers. I checked internet options/connections/lan settings and sure enough, use proxy server was ticked yet there was no proxy server name. I unticked the option and problem gone. Hooray, thanks for your help.... Greg
