Failed Windows 7 updates max's out available network bandwidth
Hello, We have recently upgraded our computers to Windows 7. The version of Windows 7 we got was from Technet (we are Microsoft Partners). In the past couple of weeks, we've been having bandwidth issues where our outgoing connections to the internet are max'd out. I was talking to a friend of mine who's a network admin for his company about our problem. First thing he asked was whether or not we had downloaded our install disks from Technet or MSDN to which I responded yes. He remembers hearing something about a corruption in some of the ISO's where failed updates may cause Windows to spawn several threads thus maxing out available bandwidth. Problem is he doesn't remember the specific details so can't point me to an article that would solve our problem. He stated that you may have to modify the registry to fix the issue. So ... has anyone heard of such an issue and if so, how do we solve it? Thanks a bunch.Val

Hi Val, Can you let us know your network environment? Can you connect your machine to the internet in other network environment? It's better to collect a screenshot for your error message. Then upload it to the public folder in the SkyDrive for analyzing. John

Hi John, Not sure what you're meaning about Network Environment but I'll take a stab at what I think you mean. Our primary domain controller is a Windows Server 2003. The PDC also acts as a DNS, RADIUS and PRINT server. There are 20 pc's on the network. All but 3 are Windows 7 (Professional). The 3 are Windows XP-SP3. There are no proxy servers. Each workstation goes thru the network to access the internet via a router. All workstations have antivirus installed, firewall turned on and automatic updates turned on. Hopefully this is what you're asking. Val

Hi, I recently install Windows 7 & updated to SP1 on two Dell computers GX 760 & GX 780 at which time we had serious bandwidth issues! These two computers were not joined to the domain or recieved updates from our WSUS but used their windows update feature. I had been testing windows 7 on Gx 280 & GX 755 and did not notice any bandwidth issues, though I was using WSUS for some updates but did not recall any serious bandwidth problems updating with windows update. I have tried different NIC drivers, windows updates are slow to load but so are other updates & programs like Flash & Reader. I am currently downloading a new iso of Windows 7 on my GX 755 without any bandwidth issues. We are about to purchase more GXX 780's but need to resolve this bandwidth issue before proceding with the upgrade to Windows 7 and resolutions to this issue would be helpful! Thanks
