FIM to MIM upgrade

Thanks, yes still limited.

Btw - upgraded FIM Sync to MIM Sync...and the new MIM Sync Help File still says "FIM 2010 R2".

Also, "Help About" section still says its FIM 2010 R2.

Is the MSDN copy of MIM RTM? Sounds like it isnt RTM yet...

Hi,

With MIM now available, I'd like to test an upgrade scenario.

First question though - what are the requirements for MIM? OS? SQL? etc

FIM Sync:

I assume this is a simple in place upgrade of the binaries?

FIM Portal:

I assume we need to remove FIM Portal and Sharepoint 2010 first (as in our case)?

Then deploy Sharepoint 2013 and MIM portal again?

Thanks,

Sk

There's some (limited) information here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt219041.aspx

The article do not mentioned about the Backup of the Key. Does it mean upgradtion will happen FIM to MIM without the Key  ?

A lot of the underlying components haven't changed in the MIM release. So I guess here and there you'll probably see some references to FIM where you'd expect MIM.

I think most of the effort went to the changes on PIM, Hybrid Reporting, MIM CM,...

Thomas,

I have been working with FIM since it has been MIIS 2003, MIIS 2003 SP2, ILM 2007, FIM 2010, FIM 2010 R2, FIM 2010 R2 SP1 and now MIM (Maybe you have too, so it is all right for us).

Problem is we are in the minority. A whole generation have never seen anything prior to FIM.

I forgot to mention the fact that the Database tables are all MMC_% which is even before it became MIIS

I can live with it, but it is still a product of laziness.  :)

Consistency is not the excuse.  You can be consistent with the right names instead.

The executable says miisserver.exe.  Typical Laziness from MS.

Anyways, I am going to say this one more time. MIM is nothing more then FIM 2010 R2 SP2 (SP1 was the last service pack of FIM).  The only change is PAM.

Good point Nosh.

Could it be that the majority of the Microsoft team is focusing on the Cloud and AADConnect toolsets, and the MIM (FIM 2010 R2 SP2) product is a temporary gap filler...

That's the impression I got from the Channel 9 session on MIM anyway...

PS. even the Help About MIM logo looks like it was done in about 30 seconds using MSPaint.exe

To be honest I dont know the deivers of MS business. I just know that simple things like these undermind the otherwise powerful tool. It is a constant frustration of people on the field. I see it all the time. Also cloud is a decade away. MIM is present.

Already asked in another thread but does anyone know is the in-place upgrade possible for the certificate management part?

The encryption keys only have to be provided when installing on a new machine. The guide that you point to does an in place upgrade and as such the encryption keys are already present/registered and ready to use.

I did an upgrade where I installed MIM on new machines and was prompted for the keys as expected. Here's how I did it: http://setspn.blogspot.be/2015/08/fim-2010-not-r2-upgrade-to-mim-2016.html
