What options does the user have for resetting there password, is it only through Windows? How does this integrate with Mac users or mobile users?

What is the major benefit of FIM over these other companies that have these lightweight password reset tools?

No and it's not recommended to install FIM on a DC.

• Password reset can be integrated with the Windows logon screen
• users can reset their passwords in intranet/extranet portal

Another question; how do the data stores and FIM get configured to work together? For example we have hundreds of application data stores on different database servers. How would they all be integrated into FIM?

Unfortunately no OWA integration.

What would you like to do with those data stores? Provision some user or application information? That case you should create a management agent. Management agents move data between FIM and connected systems (e.g. databases)
