Extremely slow boot time and taskbar keeps freezing
Hi,I'm faced with a problem that only came around after I booted up my computer the morning after i'd kept it on for about 2-3 days straight.Bootup time was very long, it takes about 15 minutes in total. Which is riduclous, and the main thing is, the taskbar keeps freezing. I'm used to things freezing as my computer's cr‌ap, but it's to the point where I can't use it and i'm forced to use alt+tab.I believe it was ccleaner that did this. It must have fudged my registry up. Too bad I didn't keep a backup.I've tried nearly everything too, i've gone into safe mode, i've done system restore, and i've even done a repair reinstall from the Windows XP disk.I really don't fancy doing a full reinstall (format) as I have loads of programs which I can't be bothered installing again.Does anyone have any ideas?1 person needs an answerI do too

I did a quick format with PC Angel(system recovery) and it's still frozen and bootup it still slow.. O_O It basically reverts your computer back to how you bought it, and that's exactly how it is except the taskbars frozen and startup takes ages. After the bootup screen it stays black for ages until eventually going to the blue loading screen.I guess I'll try doing a full reinstall straight from the windows disk then. Also right now there's no wireless Intenet connection. Do I need to reinstall my adapter from the disk?http://quickpic.info/z/nc2.png

boot up time for the o.s. has always been a slow activity. that is why hibernation and standby were created and should be regularly used instead of cold booting the system.however, i don't think that the registry is responsible for the slow boot up time. there are simply too many other factors that can cause the system to become extremely slow. factors such as incompatiable programs or hardware drivers, lack of disk tune up, insufficient ram and disk space, etc...but if you sincerely beleive that the ccleaner screwed up the registry, then it can be undone and the old registry can be re-installed. the ccleaner program provides this option to restore the previous registry. likewise, a system restore can re-install an old registry depending on the date and time a restore point was made. there is also the option to restore the "original" registry that was created at the initial time the o.s. was installed and a virgin. this is the bare naked registry and it is stored in a safe place in the system folders as a last ditch effort to restore the system registry. but again, i don't think you have an issue with the registry at this time.however, what you might try to do instead is to simply boot into safe mode. if the system is more responsive in safe mode, then it is an indication that the system files do not need to be reinstalled. so what you can instead do is execute a method called "clean boot" to temporarily disable third party startup programs and services from launching with windows normal mode.db`...> DatabaseBen, Retired Professional - Systems Analyst - Database Developer - Accountancy - Veteran of the Armed Forces - @Hotmail.com "share the nirvana mann" - dbZen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > >

Whatever the cause is, recently boot time is taking about 10 times longer and the taskbar has frozen fully. Something recently has gone wrong.Did you read everything in my original post? I've tried safe mode. And system restore. I'm doing a full format + reinstall from the Windows disk now anyway as nothing is solving the problem. Also I didn't backup ccleaners registry, it gave me an option too, and I declined it.

OK, this is just really weird. And pretty annoying. I booted from the disk, did a full reinstall. I deleted and formatted the partition and reinstalled windows XP. Everything is brand new, I still need to install my wireless adapter. What's retarded is that the taskbar is still freezing. After a full format.Could this be my other two hard drives? They were having errors before this all happened and SMART was detecting them as being in dodgy condition.Should I try taking them out or just disabling the drivers for them (not the cdrive it works fine) and see if it solves the problem? If it does, then i'll be p1ssed off as I've just reinstalled the entire OS and need to reinstall all my junk on it and it was for no reason. I guess it's sped it up a bit. :/
