External WD HDD will not show im computer
Hello All, Thank you in advance for any help that is provided. I have a WD 320 GB passport (SN WDBAAA3200ABX-00). A few days ago I was backing up a virtual server (VMX files) and another student accidentally disconnected the cord from the HDD not the machine. I was on a fedora box that may be pertinent to the fix. I can not get it back. At first I had nothing anywhere on my XP and assumed it was toasted. Then I had it plugged into my buddies windows 7 and I could get to it in Disk management. When it comes up I get the message that it needs to be initialized when I select the drive and the MBR option I get that it could not initialize media is write protected. Things I have done. Uninstalled it from disk man. Tried to redo the reg. A scan from WD to format it. Diskpart -- nothing I can sel dis 1 but cannot do anything with it... There are no vol About it. My thinking is that somehow it is stuck with the PID somehow that it was interrupted from. I cannot find the drive that it was connected to because they are swappable and have been all mixed up. Thankfully all data was backed up so I am not concerned with that just need the drive.

Hi, Please try to boot the computer in Windows PE, then try to format it. If no avail. You may try to contact the manufacturer to get any clues to reinitial it.Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
