External Hard Drive Won't Work on Window 8

Hello,

I have an external hard drive that Windows 8 won't recognize and I can't get it to work. It comes right up when I plug it into my Mac or into a computer running Windows 7, but whenever it's plugged into Windows 8 I get nothing.

I have tried going into Disk Management to change the letter of the drive but all it gives me is "Disk 1 Unknown Not Initialized." I've tried reformatting it but I can't get it to work. The disk is completely blank so I don't mind using a method that will wipe or reformat the drive. Thanks.

Hi,

If it connects through USB, please try other USB device for a test.

If only this external hard drive encounters the issue, please use diskpart command to format the drive.

diskpart
list disk
select disk 1
clean
format

I tried going into diskpart but it only reads disk 0.  I hear my external hard drive come on while connected but I do not see it on MyPC options.  The same is true for my external DVD player.  Both used to work on this computer but stopped a couple of months ago.
