External HDD recognize by computer but not showing in my computer.

Hello,

I have some problem with my HDD. My HDD always works at other computer but on my laptop, it only works on one out of three port. When connecting the usb and optical mouse to these two port, all of them works. But when I connect my hdd to it, it plays sound when the usb connected and Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media icon shows but the hdd icon is not showing at My Computer. Also when I check the Device Manager, there some error at USB Mass Storage Device and said

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

I already tried uninstalling all of those on Universal Serial Bus Controller but the problem persists.

Product name: HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC. Windows 8.1 64-bit

I hope you can help me.

Regards and Thanks

update your BIOS and chipset and also make sure you connect to the right port (some external HDD don't support USB 3.0 or more)

Hi britishdhez

I already tried to update BIOS and chipset to the latest one. Basically when I installed the latest BIOS and I restarted the notebook (also it seems I forgot to unplug my HDD), it suddenly worked . But when I unplugged it again, the problem came back.

So I think the port support 3.0. Do you have any other solution?

So keyboard and mouse are working on these ports, maybe it's a power management issue.

Have a look he

you can also try to Disable USB selective suspend setting

you can also try to go to device manager, find your external HDD under USB controller or disk drive and update the driver

Did you try to reinstall USB controller before, go to device manager, find Universal Serial Bus controller and mass storage right click and uninstall, and restart your PC

try this for more advance TS

If still didn't solved, may I know your PC detail model and external HDD details model, maybe only one of your USB supported 3.0 since I assume your external HDD using 3.0 connection
