Extending a partition with a FAT32 file system
Can I extend my c volume partition into adjacent unallocated space even though it is a Fat32 file system and my (system) & boot drive on windows XP home ed1 person needs an answerI do too

sure. but you will need a partitioning utility because xp does not provide this type of disk utility. incidentally, if the unallocated space is substantial, you might want to format it and consider letting it get its own drive letter. -- db`...><)))> --> sent via windows live mail."jbese" wrote in message news:153970c4-1fe0-4f2a-b62f-d8debf83f59f...Can I extend my c volume partition into adjacent unallocated space even though it is a Fat32 file system and my (system) & boot drive on windows XP home eddb`...>-)))> `...>-)))> share the nirvana mann

I have the Easeus partition master 6.5.2 when i use it it says there is a error on the drive that needs fixed.I don't know how to do that.If i use the Diskpart utility in XP it says a FAT32 volume cannot be extended.I only have 16G on C volume and it is full.I don't really need another drive I have 20G on D that's not being used.

yeah, I couldnt tell you about the error by that program. if it were any good it might give you some idea. maybe its not compatible with sp3. perhaps, the error may be resolved via a check disk (chkdsk). but due to the fact you initiated the partition utility processs, I would highly recommend to run a chkdsk from the recovery console via a xp boot cd. in any case, there is a solution other than risking the integrity of your partitions by freeing up some c drive space and give the d drive a purpose. you can free up space on the c drive automatically by changing the default location to my documents right click on it, go to its properties page and somewhere there will be a place to enter the new drive letter D to change the location. afterwards, windows will automatically transfer everything in my docs to the other drive and set its default to the D drive too. it is a good idea to put your personal files on the other drive. that way if your c drive ever became corrupted and needed to reinstall the o.s. or format the drive, you will not have your personal files on it.-- db`...><)))> --> sent via windows live mail."jbese" wrote in message news:128271a0-57cc-4f4e-bf99-52db30547d0c...I have the Easeus partition master 6.5.2 when i use it it says there is a error on the drive that needs fixed.I don't know how to do that.If i use the Diskpart utility in XP it says a FAT32 volume cannot be extended.I only have 16G on C volume and it is full.I don't really need another drive I have 20G on D that's not being used.db`...>-)))> `...>-)))> share the nirvana mann

Download Parted Magic or Gparted. Both of these utilities are free. I prefer Parted Magic. It will be an "iso" file. You will have to use iso burner like Imgburn(freeware) to burn the "iso" file to CD. Once burned to CD boot using the CD you just burned and then you should be able to extend your partition.

Or you can change the partitions to NTFS and make the Dynamic disks and then you can extend the partitions.
