Did you export to "Comma separated values (Windows)" or "Comma separated values (DOS)"? I have seen situations where the former works when the latter doesn't. On the import page on Hotmail, did you choose the "Outlook" icon?In the future, ask Outlook-related questions in one of the Outlook forums at http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/officeoutlook or Hotmail questions at http://www.windowslivehelp.com/product.aspx?productid=1Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]--------------------------------https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Brian.TillmanIf a reply helps, please vote it as helpful. Yes, exported to CSV (Windows) and yes, chose "Outlook". Simply cannot understand why it says the file is empty when it is not.

Do you have a header row in the file? If so, try removing it.Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]--------------------------------https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Brian.TillmanIf a reply helps, please vote it as helpful. If a reply solves the issue, please mark it as an answer.

Tried that, but it didn't work. In fact, I tried exporting contacts from a hotmail account to a CSV file, and then tried importing that file into a different hotmail account: same problem.

Thanks anyway, There seem to be other people with exactly the same problem, as I could see in the forum. The reply we all get is to upload the CSV file to Private Data Area, whatever that is. I doubt whether any of us understand this. I have tried to do this, but have no clue as to whether this worked, as no reply was forthcoming.
