Explorer throttles network throughput
I have a problem where I have used mklink to create a junction to a network file share, and when running a very large installer program, approx 1GB (similar to a self-extracting archive), the network performance drops from about 50-60% of network utilisation to a very steady 2% after about a minute, with the Explorer process using a significant amount of CPU. If the Explorer process is killed, the network utilisation (after a minute or two) goes back up to the original 50-60% mark. What is Explorer doing to affect the network performance? And what can I do to remedy this situation? I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit.

It is not recommend to use Symlinks from a Network Share. That would cause some troubles. Why not creating a mapped drive for the network share? Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
