Explorer restarts when accessing Server 2003 Shared folder
Hi, I'm having some problems with just some Vista Bussiness Computers on a Server 2003 Domain Network. All machines run Vista Bussiness PT SP1 and the servers run Windows Server 2003 Standart EN edition. The problem is that, just 3 machines restart explorer when accessing a Shared Folder on one of the servers. When we copy a folder or just a file, sometimes it stops responding and restarts Explorer on Vista Machine. Any ideas on what we can do? Bruno Rodrigues

Just an update on the problem: The simple task of copying the shared folder stops and ask for retry more than once (if you hit retry)

Hi Bruno, Do other Windows Vista computers have same issue when accessing the Shared Folder? Do the 3 computers have same issue when accessing Shared Folder on other servers? From the description, I suggest you take a clean boot to check whether you can re-produce this problem. Test issue in Clean Boot ============================= 1. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Restart the computer and test the issue. Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK". Please monitor the system in the Clean Boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit. Hope it helps.

Hi Zhang, Thank you for the answer. I will try it real soon to see how it works out. Still, the problem only occurs with 3 computers out of 11 and all computers have the same configuration and belong to same domain. The problem only occurs when connecting to one Server 2003 (after the SP1 update, since before it happened with both servers running Server 2003). I've read alot of issues regarding problems connecting to server 2003 shared folders and problems related with the SMB protocol used by applications running on Vistato connect to shared folders. The problem occurs in both situations: 1 - When the client software tries to contact a shared folder for update it shows an error sayng it wasn't possible to connect to the files; 2 - When I decided to copy the Shared Folder onto the desktop so I could manually update the software it hangs also - it shows alot of messages that couldn't connect to the folder or file, but if you keep hitting "try again" it keeps moving forward slowly. I will try your suggestion tomorrow and give you feedback on how it went. BR

Hi, Do you have any update on your problem? Please feel free to let me know. In addition, It is recommended to install the Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on your server. Thanks.
