Explorer doesn't refresh when moving/deleting

Hello,

I recently started using W8 and at the moment when i change the name of a file or add a new file to a folder i have to manually refresh the folder in order to view the change. I have read about similar problems in W7 but the solutions dont seem to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Update your Windows and install all updates.

What steps did you follow so far?

Try ShellExView.

Run ShellExView, in the pane sort the entries with manufacturers. Disable all non-Microsoft *.dll files, and check the result. If the issue does not occur, one of the files can be the culprit. We could narrow down it one by one.

Well you obviously don't know anything about this bug. It's been going on for years:

Still evident as of today with a cleanly installed Windows 8.1 system. It seems MS are just burying their heads in the sand over this one and pretending there isn't a problem.

I have been using a clean installation of Windows 8.1 for 5 or 6 weeks now.  I've yet to see a single failure to update after any operation I've done with File Explorer.

I avoid using Windows Libraries like the plague.  In fact, I've completely hidden them from view.

In my opinion, avoiding Libraries and just using folders on your hard drive is one of your best defenses against the problem.

I found a fix for my situation that had identical symptoms as yours. After tons of Googling and trying numerous suggestions and nearly resorting to a reinstall, I found my problem was SIMPLE! I had noticed that there were some times when I could change a file/folder and it responded instantly, so I started to observe what was unique. I noticed if I browsed to folders in Windows File Explorer under "This PC", any changes/refreshes worked fine, but if I browsed to the same folders by going into any folders pinned under "Favorites", they needed to be manually refreshed or revisited. It turns out the problem was the links in Favorites were broken. I copied my user profile in the past during the install of Windows 8 and so some of these links were referencing the old "Start In" path on the shortcuts. SOLUTION FOR ME: Delete any custom links in Favorites, then browse to the folder in This PC and drag it back to Favorites to create a new, correct link. Works like magic now.
